Species prized for falconry: Saker falcon (Falco Cherrug)
Number of falcons in Mongolia: unknown. A recent study by the Mongolian Academy of Sciences counted 1000. Other estimates range up to 20,000.

1994 - 60 falcons for Saudi Arabia
1995 - 40 falcons for Saudi Arabia
1997 - 150 falcons to Saudi Arabia
1998 - Institute of Biology exported 25 falcons to Kuwait
1999 - 80 falcons on request from sheikhs in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia
These are the only official, publicly released figures. The number of birds taken out illegally is not known. Senior government officials do not deny that it is becoming a problem.
Falcons are considered to be rare birds. The most prized falcons are Saker Falcons, listed in the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) Supplement Two as birds prohibited from commercial sale.
Three kinds of falcons are already been listed in the Russian Red Book of endangered species. The Mongolian Red Book does not.
